The Knowledge-Surpassing Love of Christ

Ephesians 3:19—“And to know the knowledge-surpassing love of Christ, that you may be filled unto all the fullness of God.”

Note 1 on knowledge-surpassing says: “The love of Christ is Christ Himself. Just as Christ is immeasurable, so also is His love; hence, it is knowledge-surpassing. Yet, we can know it by experiencing it.”

Cross-reference “a” on love of Christ directs us to these verses:

Romans 8:35: “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation or anguish or persecution or famine or nakedness or peril or sword?”

Romans 8:39: “Nor height nor depth nor any other creature will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

2 Corinthians 5:14: “For the love of Christ constrains us because we have judged this, that One died for all, therefore all died.”

  1. What a precious word! I love the phrase “knowledge-surpassing.” The peace of God surpasses every man’s understanding (Phil. 4) and Christ’s love is knowledge surpassing. Praise Him!

  2. That is interesting and worthy of our prayer.

I never noticed Eph. 3:19 say we can “KNOW” the “surpassing love of Christ. How can we know something that is knowledge-surpassing? Only by experience.

I feel like an example of this is food. There are hundreds and thousands of fine, detailed organic components in the food we eat. One could say it is, almost, knowledge-surpassing. Yet when we eat our food, we experience it.

    What do you all think?

  3. 2 Corinthians reminds me about the famous phrase used by the 3 musketeers: “One for All and All for One!” Lord! You Are the One who died for us all, therefore I judge we all died for You, the One! Amen!

  5. I am benefiting from the new testament that I received. And am enjoying your emails.
Thank you so much, you have been a blessing for me.
    God bless

  6. Thank You Lord for loving us!

What kind of love is this: that He died for us, He gave up His own life for us. This is truly a surpassing love, a love beyond understanding.

Yet, we can experience it! Amen, Lord, may we experience Your love!
